I recently acquired Volume V an old book published in 1926 titled, “A Collection of Papers Read Before the Bucks County Historical Society”. The book contains the article “Zithers of the Pennsylvania Germans” written by Henry C. Mercer describing and picturing the scheitholts collected in an near Bucks County, Pennsylvania in the late 19th and early 20th century. click on Zither-Dulcimer Article 1926
Pages 482-497 discuss zithers, scheitholts, and mountain dulcimers. Pages 493-297 (or 20-24 of the pdf file in the link above) cover mountain dulcimers.
