Just down the street from the Dulcimer Museum we visited the Bolen Luthiery Studio where Master Artist-In-Residence Doug Naselroad teaches the art of instrument making- especially the mountain dulcimer in the Uncle Ed Thomas style. Doug Naselroad was not in the studio but the Assistant Director of the Appalachian Artisan Center, Jessica Evans, and Mike Sloan, Coordinator Hindman Dulcimer Project, showed us the wood working projects including both banjos and mountain dulcimers as well as other projects.
One particularly interesting dulcimer was an 8-foot dulcimer that actually plays made by John Knopf from Michigan and is on loan. Here’s a video of John playing it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBNC9EvYoQ4
