At the jam last Thursday Janice gave me a copy of a magazine that I believe she picked up at a yard sale. The name of the magazine is Reminisce, and is billed as “The Magazine That Brings Back The Good Times“. The issue Janice gave me is from December/January 2009 and on page 3 was the article by Raymond Nicholas that I have scanned here:
If you know me you know that I look up and research on the Internet pretty much everything I run across. Needless to say I did find interesting information about Raymond Nicholas’ dulcimer making father, General Custer Nicholas, on EverythingDulcimer.com

General Custer Nicholas is on a list of vintage mountain dulcimer makers http://everythingdulcimer.com/discuss/viewtopic.php?t=24461
Reminisce does have some free articles on their website http://www.reminisce.com (but not this one) listed by decade: 1900s-1920, 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970-1980s.
Again, I thank Janice for thinking of me and giving me the magazine.
PS: I’ve since seen where General Custer Nicholas was born July 8, 1895 & died April 24, 1979. Art Nicholas who is also in the photo passed in 2001.
Uncle Lloyd is my husbands Great Uncle. The entire family played dulcimers, banjo, guitar and the big base. Such a talented family. Each year at the family reunion several bring their instruments and play. The kids dance around. Most of the older Nicholas’ are gone now but the dulcimers still remain.
Thanks for the comments and memories!
